Eugene Goldstein was born on September 5th, 1850 in Gliwice, Poland. He went to University of Breslau in 1969. A year later, he went to the University of Berlin. He was a German physicist and head of the Astrophysical Section of the Potsdam Observatory. He discovered the canal ray by studying configuration of anode and cathode discharged circuits. This lead to identifying ionized molecules (canal rays) which had positively charged particles that depended on gas in the discharge tube. These positively charged particles were protons. He continued his research for his desire to learn more of the particle's functions. His last published paper was in 1928 and his death was only two years after that on December 25th, 1930 in Berlin, Germany.
