Robert Andrews Millikan was born on March 22nd, 1868 in Morrison, Illinois. He went to Oberlin College in 1886, got his PhD in Physics in 1895 and was the first person to determine the charge of an electron. From 1907 to 1913 Rutherford studied an electron's charge and with the oil drop experiment he was able to calculate it's charge. He was later awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his research on the charge of electricity in 1923. Rutherford moved to Pasadena to become director of Norman Bridge Laboratory at California institute of technology in 1921. He retired on 1945 and passed away on December 19th of that same year.
