Born around September 6, 1766 in Eaglesfield, Cumbria, United Kingdom. He taught mathematics and natural philosophy in Manchester in 1793. He was interested in the the weather due to his friend. Eventually this lead him to research on the gases. With his focus on gases and Dalton’s atomic theory he made his conclusion about how atoms worked. He also focused on the color blind. Since he and his brother were color blind he proved that it was hereditary. He published his research in his book called Chemical philosophy to explain his new theory. He was resisted public recognition due to practicing Quaker modesty. Died in 1844 unmarried, with science his main focus.
